On the 2 of April 19pm at Ksuns/Kinogalerija you will have the unique opportunity to watch the film ALICE, THROUGH THE LOOKING by South African director Adam Donen with the director himself and the opportunity to ask questions.
After the film, everyone is invited to an afterparty at M/Darbnīca where Henri Laķis will play and Adams Donens will present the pitch of the new film PETRA PAN, the film is planned to be filmed in Riga in the summer of 2023.
Adam Donen Described as “either a genius or a madman” by the BBC, Adam Donen is a writer, director, producer and composer, working across art-forms. He is creator of the world’s first holographic drama STALG.
Alice, Through the Looking (2021), Donen’s first feature film, was characterised by Tallinn Black Nights, at which it premiered as “imagine that you are sitting at a table in a crowded and bustling café, having your eighth consecutive espresso and debating with David Lynch, Woody Allen and Jean-Luc Godard. These are, indeed, big names to characterise a debutante, but in director Adam Donen’s case lesser names are not enough.“ The film, created for less than £400,000, featured a stellar ensemble cast including Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Ford, Sophie Vavasseur, Steven Berkoff and philosopher Slavoj Zizek.
What happens when after the Wonderland, Alice finds herself in the post-Brexit United Kingdom? Philosophy student Alice’s world is turned upside down on the morning after a masquerade party when her soulmate Rabbit whom she found the previous night has disappeared into thin air without leaving a trace after the crazy night, as befits the mysticism of the 21st century.
As if that was not enough, it turns out that the entire frolicky night has been personally commented on by flesh-and-bone Slavoj Žižek, and not only him. Alice’s three selves are also taken on by the big guns of Slovenian philosophy, Alenka Zupancic and Mladen Dolar.
